Terminal degree

This week's episode looks at some of the soul-searching moments of five graduate students who often find themselves wondering just what the hell they are doing with their lives. Why am I getting a PhD? Have I really accomplished anything? Will it ever matter? Do these boobs help or hinder my career? And why can't I stop crying? Listen in as your host and four women of science take you down the bumpy road and (hopefully) on to better places.

God, that sounds awful cheery for a cynical bastard like me, doesn't it? Well, don't worry, it ain't as warm and fuzzy as Ira Glass...but it's a start.

Sound beds this week:
Radio Cure by Wilco (iTunes)
and from the Atlanta music scene, two amazing duos:
Little More than This by NorthSouth
Mexico by Arlington Priest
Both play regularly in town and branch out all over, so be sure to check out their sites for schedules.

Oh yeah, want to know what a bat biologist does? Check out some videos.

Download this episode (38:20 / 13.5 MB) - she's a big 'un, so I decided against stereo to spare your iPod. Back to normal next week.

Ah, okay. I just listened to the Curry/Bloom "strategy cast" in which Ron Bloom was pissing on PBS (i.e., "If we don't make this Teh Hip Megaca$h industry and make the cream rise to the top, podcasting will just be like PBS and icky-crap!"), so I was a bit sensitive to that first comment. But then again, once I heard Bloom say that, I thought, what the fuck is wrong with PBS you snooty capitalist asshole? I LIKE PBS! Well, sometimes.

Anyway, this episode IS a bit PBS-y inasmuch as it's kind of a downer (just like grad school!), but fear not, I'll be more fired up and snarky next week. I think I'm going to mock the podosphere again, that's always fun.

Thanks for the comments. They're worth way more than votes.

I agree completely. I vote beg because I like to get a reaction, as bad as that may seem. I like to see who the so called "purists" are.

Fantastic. Really, quite well done. Lots of thoughts, too many for a little comment box. We should chat soon-ish.
